Daily Reading: 2 Chronicles 14
They were broken before the Lord and his army. (2 Chronicles 14.13)
Devotional Thought: Are there situations and circumstances in your life that seem insurmountable, perhaps a diagnosis of serious disease, the imminent death of a loved one, the loss of job and income, or the fracturing of a relationship? Sometimes these "enemies" come at you in waves, with no end in sight, threatening to overwhelm your soul. Is there hope?
That was the very question that Asa must have had when the Ethiopian army came against him and the army of Judah. Asa had been busy realigning the people of God with the purposes of God. God had given him peace in those years to accomplish this work of revival. But now Judah threatened by an army twice their size. This didn't seem right. Asa had given up military pursuits to pursue God. Now he was unprepared for the imminent threat. Or was he?
Perhaps Asa and his army were better prepared than ever, having developed a renewed relationship with their God. So in their time of need, they were able to pray with confidence, "O Lord, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God; let not man prevail against you." With that prayer on their lips and that faith in their hearts, the army of God completely defeated the army of the enemy.
What "enemies" threaten you today? Are they bigger than an army of a million broken before the Lord? Are they stronger than the chains of death and the grave broken before the Lord? Of course not! Have assurance, child of God, that your "enemies" are broken before the Lord.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord God, that in your there is strength, in your name there is victory! I rely upon you, O God. And in your great name I will I stand against the enemy. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 66:1-7
1 Shout for joy to God, all the earth;
2 sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise!
3 Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you.
4 All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name." Selah
5 Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man.
6 He turned the sea into dry land; they passed through the river on foot. There did we rejoice in him,
7 who rules by his might forever, whose eyes keep watch on the nations-- let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah
