God's GPS

Daily Reading: Ephesians 2

Scripture Focus: Following the course of this world... (Ephesians 2.2)

Devotional Thought: Recently, I was going with my friend Matt to a mission project on the north side of Cincinnati. He was driving and we were following his GPS. At our exit, we got off on the right, just as I had done many times before at that particular exit. What we didn't know, however, and what the outdated GPS didn't 'know', was that the exit had changed. Instead of exiting right, we needed to exit left. We thought we were right - after all GPS is never wrong - but we were headed the wrong direction!

The Apostle Paul warned that "following the course of this world" was like that. When we walked that way, we didn't know where we were headed. "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death" (Proverbs 16.25). Spiritually dead people, following a spiritually dead course, may think that they are right, but are dead wrong. No matter how sincerely we believe a lie, it is a lie nonetheless.

Our world is full of different courses. We have so many options to choose from. We can find all manner of "truth" on the internet. But, the only reliable truth is found in the Word of God. Let's use God's GPS and make sure we reach the right destination!

Prayer: Thank you, Father, for your Word which shows us the way to life. Thank you that your Son is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Help us to follow him and so to arrive at the proper destination. Amen.

Psalm of the Day: 12 Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! 13 For he strengthens the bars of your gates; he blesses your children within you. 14 He makes peace in your borders; he fills you with the finest of the wheat. 15 He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. 16 He gives snow like wool; he scatters hoarfrost like ashes. 17 He hurls down his crystals of ice like crumbs; who can stand before his cold? 18 He sends out his word, and melts them; he makes his wind blow and the waters flow. 19 He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and rules to Israel. 20 He has not dealt thus with any other nation; they do not know his rules. Praise the LORD! (Psalms 147:12-20)
