Daily Reading: 1 Kings 3
Scripture Focus: Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people? (1 Kings 3.9)
Devotional Thought: Isn’t it amazing that the God of the universe saw Solomon’s faithfulness, and asked him specifically about his heart’s desires? This testifies to the fact that God cares about your every desire! What is shocking is that Solomon didn’t ask to be rich or healthy, but he asked for wisdom. As a young ruler, he needed discernment to help him rule effectively.
When I was younger, my consistent prayer was to have a heart like David’s, a man after God’s own heart. “God, give me wisdom,” is my go-to prayer these days, because life is uncertain. I would rather have a peaceful heart full of wisdom than one full of anxiety.
Let’s examine Solomon’s life:
· He was young – He understood his life’s limitations. Solomon needed help because he was guiding people that came from different backgrounds.
· He recognized God’s majesty – He saw himself as God’s servant. He knew that God was all-knowing, so that God could help him with the uncertainties of life.
· He realized the importance of his job – Solomon took his job seriously! Since Solomon was leading God’s people, he had a great responsibility.
Solomon needed supernatural wisdom to govern the people correctly. Just like Solomon, we all need God to give us wisdom, even with the small things. I challenge you to be like Solomon and pray, “God, give me wisdom!” You will be amazed how he answers your prayer!

Prayer: Lord, grant that I would have an understanding mind that I may discern between good and evil and live pleasing to you. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 119.17-24
17 Deal bountifully with your servant,
that I may live and keep your word.
18 Open my eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of your law.
19 I am a sojourner on the earth;
hide not your commandments from me!
20 My soul is consumed with longing
for your rules at all times.
21 You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones,
who wander from your commandments.
22 Take away from me scorn and contempt,
for I have kept your testimonies.
23 Even though princes sit plotting against me,
your servant will meditate on your statutes.
24 Your testimonies are my delight;
they are my counselors.
