Remember Jesus Christ

Daily Reading: 2 Timothy 2

Scripture Focus: Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, for which I am suffering. (2 Timothy 2.8-9a)

Devotional Thought: Sometimes, the simplest advice is the best. Paul's words in 2 Timothy 2.8, are like that: "Remember ... Jesus."

Jesus is...

· The conqueror of death. Jesus Christ is eternal. Death, therefore, could not hold him. Death is the product of sin. After he died on the cross, he arose from the dead, defeating sin and death and the grave! Whatever problems you face, whatever burdens you bear, remember Jesus is greater; he's our Crusader. Jesus is stronger, and he lasts longer!

· The offspring of David. David was the quintessential King of the Old Testament, and the scriptures foretold of One who would come from David's line to restore the Kingdom of God. Jesus is enthroned above all rulers and authorities and powers. "Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom" (Luke 12.32).

· The greatest declaration. Jesus is "the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end" (Revelation 22.13). He predates and outlives every other word of history. There is no greater name than the name of Jesus!

· Our partner in distress. While in this world, we will have trouble, but Jesus has overcome the world (John 16.33). Take heart, for the Victor has promised to never leave us or forsake us!

This "saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself" (2 Timothy 2.11-13).

Prayer: "There is a name I love to hear; I love to sing its worth. It sounds like music in my ear, the sweetest name on earth." Oh, how I love you, Jesus - because you first loved me!

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 119.129-136

129 Your testimonies are wonderful;

therefore my soul keeps them.

130 The unfolding of your words gives light;

it imparts understanding to the simple.

131 I open my mouth and pant,

because I long for your commandments.

132 Turn to me and be gracious to me,

as is your way with those who love your name.

133 Keep steady my steps according to your promise,

and let no iniquity get dominion over me.

134 Redeem me from man's oppression,

that I may keep your precepts.

135 Make your face shine upon your servant,

and teach me your statutes.

136 My eyes shed streams of tears,

because people do not keep your law.
