Daily Reading: Proverbs 23
Scripture Focus: Apply your heart to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge. (Proverbs 23.12)
Devotional Thought: In our culture, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find knowledge. In fact, the “smarter” we become, the less knowledge it seems we have. Technological advances have made all of the answers an easy click away. Experts can save us a lot of time by telling us exactly how/what we should think in their self-help books. In reality, we are surrounded by a lot of noise. The noise distracts us from the true source of knowledge, which is exactly what our enemy wants. True knowledge can only be found in Christ, in whom is “hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2.3).
In a world full of easy answers, we are called to take the path of faith. How do we discern true knowledge? We cannot on our own, but must rely on the Holy Spirit, as Paul reminds the church in Corinth. Those things that no eye has seen, no ear heard, no heart of man imagined, “these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God” (1 Corinthians 2:10). Paul also tells us that we can rely on the indwelling Spirit for discernment. “Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual” (1 Corinthians 2.12-13). Praise God for His provision. He not only gives us true knowledge through Christ, but also an Interpreter!
But, our hearts have to be in it, not just our minds! Are you applying your heart to the instruction of the Lord?

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that you are my Teacher of new and wonderful truth and you also are my Interpreter of what I learn from other sources. Help me to put my full heart into following your truth. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 14.1-3
1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good.
2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.
3 They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.
