What a Great Prayer!

Daily Reading: 2 Thessalonians 1-2

To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thessalonians 1.11-12)

Devotional Thought: What a great prayer!  Try praying this for yourself and for those you love…

·       May God make us worthy of his calling.  We have been called God’s children and God’s ambassadors.  What a great privilege!  We know it is way beyond our ability, but may God accomplish great purposes through us!

·       May God fulfill every resolve for good.  For good to come through my life, I must resolve it so.  God makes good things out of the raw materials of our heartfelt determination.  So, pray that you and those you love would have inner resolve to live and do what is right.

·       May God fulfill every work of faith by his power.  In addition to the raw materials of good intentions, God works through our good actions.  If we trust in our own power, we will fall flat, but work that is done by God’s power will accomplish great results.  Pray for a faith that results in deeds! 

·       May the name of the Lord Jesus be glorified in us.  We are not building our own kingdom nor advancing our own causes.  May the Lord help us to live so that he receives glory.  May he also prevent us from doing anything that would detract from his glory.

·       May we be glorified in him.  Not with our own glory, but in him.  Jesus prayed that we would share in the Father’s glory (John 17).

·       According to his grace.  Amen!

Prayer: O God, make me worthy of your calling, and fulfill every resolve for good and every work by faith in your power. May Jesus be glorified in me and I in him, according to the grace of God.  Amen.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 30.1-5

1 I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me.

2 O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.

3 O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.

4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name.

5 For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
