Which Side of the Jordan?

Daily Reading: Numbers 32

Scripture Focus: Your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before the Lord to battle, as my lord orders. (Numbers 32.27)

Devotional Thought: Aren't you glad that we don't all have the same goals in life? Aren't you glad that there are a variety of ways we can fulfill God's will? Aren't you glad that we don't all have to live in the same place, following the same customs, in order to be the chosen, the children of God?

The people of Gad, Reuben, and Manasseh are a perfect example. They found desirable land outside the borders of Canaan that they thought would be best for them and their families. So they went to Moses to ask permission to settle there, wanting assurance of the blessings of God and unity of God's people. Moses (and God by way of extension) agreed - with one condition. These tribes must help their brothers and sisters possess their portion of the promise.

We have different churches, denominations, and theological perspectives in The Church of Jesus Christ. That's fine. As I said, we don't all have to agree in order to be children, the chosen of God. But, we must remain united! We must all fight the spiritual warfare that has been given to all God's people. That warfare, of course, is for the souls of men and women.

God desires that all people should be saved. And he wants to accomplish that through His Church. Which side of the "Jordan" are you on? It doesn't really matter. Whether on this side or that side, let us put our hands and hearts together to further God's Kingdom on this earth and for eternity.

Prayer: Lord, we thank you for our own churches and denominational backgrounds. These are our spiritual families, given to us to nurture and guide us. But, may we always remember, Lord, that we are part of your family, and may we always be about our Father's business - the saving of souls! Amen.

Psalm of the Day: 1 Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways! 2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD. 5 The LORD bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life! 6 May you see your children's children! Peace be upon Israel! (Psalms 128:1-6)
