Daily ReadingRevelation 17

They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful. (Revelation 17.14)

Devotional Thought:  Throughout history the kingdom of darkness has waged war on the faithful followers of God, beginning with Satan’s deception of Adam and Eve who were created to worship and love God.  The kingdom of darkness immediately attacked the next generation as Cain was enticed to murder Abel – a true worshipper of God.  From the beginning and to the end, the righteous have been and will be persecuted.

In the end, the Kingdom of darkness will attack with ferocity.  It will be a frontal assault on the Lamb.  But, all praise and glory to that Lamb – He will overcome!  The Lamb is Lord of lords and King of kings!  All other powers and authorities will bow before him.  Those who resist his dominion will be overcome.  Those who oppress his followers will be silenced and rendered powerless.  Nothing can stand against our Jesus.

And, nothing can stand against us!  In this world we may have troubles, but take heart - Jesus overcomes the world!  He died for you.  He rose again from the dead.  Reaching out to you, he sent the Holy Spirit to your heart, convicted you of sin and gave you faith to exercise for salvation.  He has chosen you.  You are not simply one among many, swept up in a tsunami of grace.  No, the Bible pictures it differently: you have been picked up as on eagles’ wings – one at a time, precious to God for who you are.  And he gives you grace to be faithful.  He is able to make all grace abound to you so that nothing can harm your faith.  And, in the end, he will keep you.

Don’t give up!  Never turn back!  Keep the faith!  The Lamb has overcome!

Prayer: Jesus, you have overcome!  You are the King of kings and Lord of lords.  You are my King and my Lord.  Amen.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 105:23-36

23 Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob resided as a foreigner in the land of Ham.

24 The LORD made his people very fruitful; he made them too numerous for their foes,

25 whose hearts he turned to hate his people, to conspire against his servants.

26 He sent Moses his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen.

27 They performed his signs among them, his wonders in the land of Ham.

28 He sent darkness and made the land dark— for had they not rebelled against his words?

29 He turned their waters into blood, causing their fish to die.

30 Their land teemed with frogs, which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers.

31 He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, and gnats throughout their country.

32 He turned their rain into hail, with lightning throughout their land;

33 he struck down their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their country.

34 He spoke, and the locusts came, grasshoppers without number;

35 they ate up every green thing in their land, ate up the produce of their soil.

36 Then he struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their manhood.
