A MOMENT WITH SC EVANGELISTS

“God gave some to be … evangelists … so that the body of Christ may be built up.”

A MOMENT WITH SCOTT

Dear Friends,
It is hard to believe that I am entering my eighth year here in the Palmetto State. I appreciate all my brothers and sisters in ministry – but especially those here in South Carolina!

Speaking of entering a new year, have you considered a New Year’s Revival? The new year is a perfect time to consider spiritual renewal. A year ago, Rev. Curt Evans invited Lana and me to come to Camden for a discipleship and renewal weekend focusing on Four Seeds of Partnership: Praying, Serving, Inviting, and Giving. I preached Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday morning. To get the fourth message in, I taught the Sunday morning Sunday school class! It was a great format!

Here is an excerpt from my book The Disciples’ Compass (now available in Spanish!) about partnering through service . Use it any way you like!

One of the most powerful ways to partner in the church is by serving. We see a compelling example in Luke 5 when Jesus calls Peter to a new kind of service:

-
My “Stuff” Really Belongs to God - He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. (Luke 5:3–4 NIV). Who owns your resources, time, and talents—you or God?

-
Working on My Own Is Fruitless and Exhausting - “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5 NIV). Service apart from God’s leading often results in frustration.

-
God-Given Strengths Yield Abundant Results - When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. (Luke 5:6 NIV). Serving in God’s strength brings supernatural results.

-
Letting God Set the Agenda - Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. (Luke 5:10–11 NIV). True service means trusting God’s plan over our own.

Thank you for the privilege of partnering with you and your churches for renewal and revival in South Carolina!

Until next time,
