Amen!

Daily Reading: 2 Corinthians 1

Scripture Focus: For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. (2 Corinthians 1.20)

Devotional Thought: After "promising" to come to Corinth at a certain time, the Apostle Paul was delayed.  He probably hoped that the Corinthians would show a little patience when circumstances caused his plans to change.  His detractors didn’t cut him any slack, however.  I like to think that I would have.  You see, I’ve made hundreds of plans as a leader only to see them changed.  We may make our plans, but it is good to remember what one wise person once told me: “Plans are what you do when you don’t do something else!”

In diffusing this situation, though, Paul found a good opportunity to make a point: God can always be trusted!  When God makes a plan, you can take it to the bank!  God doesn’t operate in maybes.

This, of course, does not mean that life will always be a bed of ease and that there will be no problems.  Sickness, tragedy, and even death come to all.  But no matter how many problems I have, they are all defeated in Christ.  There is a promise for every problem.

Are you facing uncertainty in your work?  Finances?  Relationships?  Health?  Uncertainty is a part of the human experience.  But in the midst of all our uncertainty, we find the bedrock of immovable truth: God.  When others reject us, Christ accepts us.  When our job is on the line, Jesus is on our side.  When our savings are diminished, our Savior is our lasting hope.  When our health has failed, our Healer is faithful.  When our strength is waning, our Defender is reigning.

So, utter your “Amen” to the glory of God!

Prayer: Thank you, for your great and precious promises, O God!  In Jesus, I have received God's eternal "Yes!"  And, I say "Amen!" to the glory of God!

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 114.1-8

1 When Israel went out from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,

2 Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion.

3 The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back.

4 The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs.

5 What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back?

6 O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs?

7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

8 who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water.
