Daily Reading: Hebrews 1
Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1.14)
Devotional Thought: In Hebrews 1, we see that Jesus is superior to angels. As God's Son, Jesus is the radiance of God’s glory, and he is the eternally reigning King! Jesus, not angels, is worthy of all worship and praise. That fact, however, does not reduce the importance of the ministry of angels. As a matter of fact, the more significant Jesus' reign is, the more important is the ministry of angels.
Throughout the Bible we encounter angels doing great and valiant deeds:
Angels are messengers of God and conveyors of deliverance.
They bring God’s Word.
When Jesus was born, a great host of angels celebrated in the fields over the shepherds.
Angels ministered to Jesus in the wilderness when he was tempted.
Jesus testified that God gives his angels guard over us, to fight against the dark angels in Satan’s realm.
Angels rejoice in heaven around the throne when someone comes to know Jesus!
I’m not an expert on angelology, but think about it. Angels – those great beings who assemble around the throne of God – are "sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation." They serve you and me! And just like he gives you and me assignments, God gives them assignments and power to fulfill these assignments. On occasion it takes some time for angels to defeat the enemy as when Michael was detained three weeks in battle with the prince of darkness. But they do prevail!
So, child of God remember that you are not alone. God is with you and he puts his angels over you to guard, guide and deliver you. Bless the name of the Lord!
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your ministering spirits - angels of mercy, angels of light. Help me, O Lord, to be a ministering spirit as well so that I can help others as I am helped by angels. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 50:7-15
7 “Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel: I am God, your God.
8 I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
9 I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens,
10 for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine.
12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
14 “Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High,
15 and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
