Daily Reading: Revelation 6-7

Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, (Revelation 6.15-16)

Devotional Thought: Have you ever experienced an earthquake?  I have felt one once – but barely.  While living in Findlay, OH, I felt a mild quake centered somewhere in KY.  I thought a truck was driving by on the street in front of our house.  When I realized what it was, I was a bit unnerved. I can only imagine how terrifying it must be to feel a severe earthquake when the very thing we count on as firm and stable (that on which we build and rest), is shaking!  Where do you turn then?

It is hard to imagine someone who has just experienced an earthquake – the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man – running back into the rubble and saying, “Return, earthquake, and cover me with the rocks of the mountains!”  What could cause such terror and send someone back into the epicenter?  According to Revelation 6.16, it would be the wrath of the Lamb!

Jesus is the Conquering King of all creation.  One day he is going to bring history to a close.  He is going to judge each person according to what they have done.  For those who have rejected this King, where else have they to turn?  It’s not that God is condemning them at that point.  They themselves have refused and rejected the only salvation that is available.  Not even death among the caves and the rocks will be able to save them.

We know that day is coming.  We must be ready!  Our loved ones must be ready!  Take the message of God’s hope and his love to all you know!

Prayer: Lord, there is no fear in your perfect love.  I am so grateful that you have covered me with your blood and I do not need to hide in the rocks and the caves.  Thank you for your indescribable love!  Amen.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 104:10-15

10 He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains.

11 They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.

12 The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.

13 He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.

14 He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth:

15 wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.
