God Is the God of You

Daily Reading: Romans 3

Scripture Focus: Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also. (Romans 3.29)

Devotional Thought: God reaches out to all people - whether they be Jews or Gentiles, Christians or non-Christians, believers or atheists. He is God of everybody!

God is our Father by virtue of creating us. On the sixth day of creation, God looked at what he had made and it was very good. The other days ended with good. The sixth and final day ended with very good. God's creative purpose reached its apex in humanity. He breathed his life into us and stamped his image upon us. God sees us all as his children because we are made in his image.

God is our Father by virtue of adopting us. Not only are we the culmination of his creative hand, humanity is also the object of his redeeming love. When our sins separated us from God, he was not content to leave us there. Through the sacrifice of his Son on the cross, he made a way for us to come back into his family. Such love, such wondrous love!

God is our Father by virtue of sustaining us. Perhaps you have heard the expression, "Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad." Fatherhood involves more than reproducing or adopting. It is an ongoing relationship of love and provision. God has not forgotten us. He walks with us and talks with us. He wants to spend time with us - quality and quantity time.

And, yes, God is the God of you, too! Will you choose him?

Prayer: Thank you, Father, that you love me and are my God. You created me. You chose me. You sustain me. I love you, Lord, my God and my Father!

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 18.25-30

25 With the merciful you show yourself merciful;

with the blameless man you show yourself blameless;

26 with the purified you show yourself pure;

and with the crooked you make yourself seem tortuous.

27 For you save a humble people,

but the haughty eyes you bring down.

28 For it is you who light my lamp;

the Lord my God lightens my darkness.

29 For by you I can run against a troop,

and by my God I can leap over a wall.

30 This God—his way is perfect;

the word of the Lord proves true;

he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.
