In Accordance with All...

Daily Reading: Exodus 36

Scripture Focus: Work in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded. (Exodus 36.1)

Devotional Thought: My daughter is planning a deck for her home in MI. She sent me a copy of the requirements for permits and inspections in her community. Wasn't that kind of her!? I got the message! Anyway, as I read the information, I first felt a twinge of, "I know what I'm doing!" But, as I considered it, I realized that if we just followed their directions life would be easier for us. We wouldn't need to be looking over our shoulders worried that the inspectors might show up. And, my daughter would undoubtedly get a better deck! We just need to "work in accordance with all that the inspection department requires."

As the Israelites were building the tabernacle in the wilderness, Moses instructed them to do their "work in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded." Life would be easier for them, and they would end up with a beautiful place of worship - if they simply followed the instructions given them by the Lord.

Life is like that, too. It is easier and much more beautiful when we live "in accordance with all that the Lord has commanded." And, if we just follow the instructions, we won't be looking over our shoulders, fearful of The Inspector showing up. And, where are those instructions? Thankfully, God has given us very clear instructions - even better than the building department in Wixom, MI - in his Word.

So, be 'hearers' of the Word, but also be 'doers.' Your life will be what God created it to be.

Prayer: Father, thank you for the Bible. Help me to read it, to understand it, and to live it. May my life be filled with the rewards of holy living. And, Father, may I bring glory to you as I live according to your will. Amen.

Psalm of the Day: 1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." 3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. 5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. (Psalms 91:1-8)
