Let Him BE Your Strength

Daily Reading: Matthew 26

Scripture Focus: And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26.40-41)

Devotional Thought: Jesus knew the time of his pain and death was near.  He went to the garden to pray, taking three of his disciples to pray with him and share his burden of grief.  They all failed him miserably.  Instead of keeping watch with him as he had asked, Jesus returned to find that they had all fallen asleep - in his hour of greatest need!

Isn’t that true of all of us?  How many times have we struggled to do something in our own power, and have fallen on our face time after time after time?  If we can truly grasp the concepts of...

Completely surrendering our struggles to God

Letting him work through us with his strength

Accepting his will in the situation - even when it may not be what we want or expect

Then, we will have glorious freedom!

The burden is not yours to carry.  Do not simply pray for God to give you strength to overcome your struggles, pray for him to BE your strength!  In doing so, in letting him work his strength through you, all of the glory will also belong to its rightful owner - Christ Jesus.  He will do “awesome things that we did not expect”! (Isaiah 64:3)

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that though my flesh is weak, your Spirit is willing.  Be the strength in me that enables me to overcome even the greatest trial, carry even the heaviest burden.  I love you, Lord!  Amen.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 89.40-45

40 You have breached all his walls; you have laid his strongholds in ruins.

41 All who pass by plunder him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors.

42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.

43 You have also turned back the edge of his sword, and you have not made him stand in battle.

44 You have made his splendor to cease and cast his throne to the ground.

45 You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah
