Daily Reading: Ezekiel 45
You shall have just balances. (Ezekiel 45.10)

"Number of Migrant Children in Custody Doubles in Twenty Days."

Those are just a few samples of headlines that make us wonder, "Is there justice in the world, anymore?"
Our day is no different from any other time in history. There have always been examples of justice applied unequally. It is the nature of humanity to favor "our people" over "the other." Kings and rulers want special treatment while insisting on the full extent of justice for others. The "princes of Israel" in Ezekiel's day were prosecuting the people and padding their own pockets by unjust policies. God said, "Enough! You shall have just balances!"
Today, we want justice for those who think like us, or who are in our party, or who support our political goals. God, however, says, "Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream" (Amos 5.24). With man justice may be thwarted, but with God justice shall ultimately prevail.
Prayer: Lord, forgive me for getting caught up with today's culture of payback for our enemies and a pass for our friends. Help me to be a person of justice as the righteousness of Christ is lived out in me. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 59.10-17
10 My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.
11 Kill them not, lest my people forget; make them totter by your power and bring them down, O Lord, our shield!
12 For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter,
13 consume them in wrath; consume them till they are no more, that they may know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah
14 Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city.
15 They wander about for food and growl if they do not get their fill.
16 But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.
17 O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.
