Life Alert®

Daily Reading: Isaiah 65

Scripture Focus: I was ready to be sought by those who did not ask for me; I was ready to be found by those who did not seek me. I said, “Here I am, here I am,” to a nation that was not called by my name... Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear. (Isaiah 65.1, 24)

Devotional Thought: You are familiar with companies like Life Alert who monitor transmitters worn by the elderly or infirm.  24/7 those companies receive and answer calls.  Subscribers who need help merely press a button and help is on the way!  Life Alert itself has over 600 employees who process over 500,000 calls annually.  While they are headquartered in California, they take calls from all across the United States.  They are just waiting by the phones to send the needed help.  But, if they don’t receive the call, they can’t send the help.

Before my sweet mother-in-law moved into an assisted living home, she was staying at home by herself.  She had one of those transmitters around her neck.  When she needed it, however, she forgot that she had it!  She fell and lay on the floor for hours before Lana – who just happened to be going to see her in WV that day! – found her.  Help was ready and waiting, but she never called.

God is like that with his people.  Before we ever call, he is waiting for us.  But even better, he knows our need and answers before we call!  However, he doesn’t impose his help upon us.  He allows us the opportunity to call upon him. When we fail to do so, we miss the blessings that he has for us.

Remember to call upon the Lord, and do so with confidence.  He is waiting for your call.  He is listening for your cry.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, that you are ready to be sought, ready to be found, ready to answer my call.  Help me to have the wisdom and the faith to call upon you.  Amen.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 95.1-5

1 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

4 In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.

5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
