Mustard Seeds and Mountains

Daily Reading: Matthew 17
Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. (Matthew 17.20, NIV)
Devotional Thought: I once heard a story about a little girl who lived by the ocean. She could see the sea when she walked out her front door and just loved to sit and watch the waves crash on the shore. One day, a construction crew started moving dirt to prepare to build a new hotel. As the mound of dirt grew, the little girl could no longer see the ocean. She went to her parents to see what she could do to get her view of the ocean back. At the instruction of her parents, she started praying for the mountain to be moved. To the surprise of everyone, after only a few days of prayer, the construction site was moved, and the workers started moving the mountain of dirt to the new location. That little girl got her view of the ocean back because she had faith the size of a mustard seed!
It seems today that we live in a generation of unbelieving and perverse people, yet Christ says it only takes faith the size of a mustard seed to move mountains. Though it is one of the smallest seeds, the mustard seed grows into one of the largest plants in the garden.
I wonder how our lives would be positively affected if we would just have the faith the size of a mustard seed? What mountains in our life would be moved out of the way? In what ways could God use us?
Today I want to encourage you to have faith the size of a mustard seed and start watching your mountains be moved!

Prayer: Lord, too often I have focused on the mountain and neglected the mustard seed of faith at my disposal. I believe, Lord! Help my unbelief! Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 91.9-16
9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—the Most High, who is my refuge— 10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. 12 On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. 14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. 15 When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation. ”
