Daily Reading: John 14
Scripture Focus: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14.6)
Devotional Thought: “No one comes to the Father except through me.” No one. That means everyone from the past, the present and the future who has come to God has come through “The Door” or “The Gate” who is Jesus (see John 10.7).
Think about …
Adam and Eve knew God as the Creator and Sustainer in the Garden of Eden. They came to know God through Jesus Christ, the second Person of the Trinity. Was it Jesus who walked in the Garden of Eden in the cool of the day?
Noah knew God as the One who saved him in the flood. He came to know God through Jesus Christ, the One who would later walk on water. Was it Jesus who shut the door of the ark?
Abraham knew God as the Covenant-Maker. He came to know God through Jesus Christ, the one whose blood sealed the eternal covenant. Was it Jesus who passed through the covenant sacrifices in Genesis 15?
We also know that Jesus is the way of salvation for Jews who observed the Torah and the sacrificial system. It isn’t the blood of bulls and goats that saves them! It is the blood of Jesus!
And what about children who have not yet reached “the age of accountability”? Even babies? The mentally incompetent? We believe that God’s mercy saves them through the blood of Jesus.
I am not a universalist, believing that everyone will be saved. But, I do believe that Jesus is the way of salvation for everyone! All who are saved come through Jesus – even those who do not know it is the blood that saves them. All through the blood!
Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, that you are the way and the truth and the life. You alone are my salvation, and I come to God through you. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 37.1-6
1 Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers!
2 For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.
6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.
