Daily ReadingJob 28-29

I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. (Job 29.15)

Devotional Thought: I have a dear friend who is vision-impaired.  When I first met him, he could see somewhat, but today, he is barely able to make out light and darkness.  When Hayward and I go out to lunch together, I will go around the car and stand at the door while he gets out.  Then, he places his hand on my shoulder and we walk into the restaurant together.  I am his eyes and legs.  It is a privilege and a pleasure.

Job experienced that pleasure, himself.  By all accounts, Job was a generous person and reached out to help those in need.  He not only enjoyed the blessings of God, he - like Abraham - was used by God to be a blessing to others.

A question comes to my mind, "Am I a consumer or a conduit of God's blessings?"  God has shown me the way, shining the light of Jesus into my life.  Does the light stop there?  Am I simply a consumer?  Or, am I allowing my light to shine so that others can see the way to God?  God has picked me up and set my feet on the solid Rock, which is Jesus Christ.  Do I stand there, a solitary figure, a monument to God's grace?  Or, like the Good Shepherd, do I climb down from the heights and carry the lost sheep to safety?

Oh.  I mentioned helping my friend outside the restaurant.  But, when we get inside the restaurant, the tables turn.  Hayward, who has walked with Jesus for many, many years, becomes eyes and feet to me, helping me see and grow in the way of God.

Are you eyes to the blind and feet to the lame?  Help them see and come to Jesus!

Prayer: Lord, you have shown me grace by sending others to show me the way, to carry me by their prayers to safety.  Use me today, O Shepherd, to be eyes to the blind and feet to the lame.  Amen.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 122.1-5

1 I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD!"

2 Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem!

3 Jerusalem--built as a city that is bound firmly together,

4 to which the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, as was decreed forIsrael, to give thanks to the name of the LORD.

5 There thrones for judgment were set, the thrones of the house of David.
