Speak Up, Child!

Daily Reading:  2 Kings 5

She said to her mistress, “Would that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.” (2 Kings 5.3)

Devotional Thought: Sometimes I wish I had the courage of that little Jewish girl in 2 Kings 5, today’s chapter.  When her master was diagnosed with leprosy, she was confident that God could heal him!  If only he would go see the prophet Elisha, he would be cured!  Oh, for the faith of a child!

When that little girl testified to the power of God for healing, Naaman – desperate for a solution – thought, “Why not give it a try?”  He did, and as the story goes, he humbled himself and dipped himself in the dirty waters of the Jordan River and came up with baby-smooth skin.  The leprosy was gone!  Listen to his testimony given to Elisha and to all his company: “Behold, I know that there is no God in all the earth but in Israel’” (v. 15).  Not only was he healed, but he was given a testimony to share.  All because he was willing to listen to the testimony of that little girl.  Oh, for the faith of a child!

What does the Bible say about God?  What do you believe about God?  What has God done for you?  Are there people in your life who are waiting for your testimony so that they can believe for themselves?  Who needs a message of hope and healing?  Are you willing to have faith in God and speak up!  Do you have a faith like that little Jewish girl?  Oh, for the faith of a child!

Prayer: Lord, you said, "When the Son of Man returns, will he find faith on the earth?"  I am sorry that my faith is sometimes weak.  Help me to have the faith of a child that I might enter the Kingdom and bid others to enter as well.  Amen.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 12.1-8

1 Save, O LORD, for the godly one is gone; for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man.

2 Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that makes great boasts,

4 those who say, "With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are with us; who is master over us?"

5 "Because the poor are plundered, because the needy groan, I will now arise," says the LORD; "I will place him in the safety for which he longs."

6 The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times.

7 You, O LORD, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever.

8 On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man.
