Daily Reading: Exodus 15
Scripture Focus: The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him. The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is his name. (Exodus 15.2-3)
Devotional Thought: After Israel passed through the Red Sea, Moses composed a psalm of praise to God their Deliverer. Moses gave God names that represented what he had done for Israel. It is good to 'name' God - giving him praise for his attributes and actions.
Praise God that he is your...
Strength. Israel had no power with which to pass through the Sea. They were hopelessly trapped. But God had the strength to get them through. Whatever you face, it is not too difficult for God. Remember, "With God, all things are possible" (Matthew 19.26), God is "able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us" (Ephesians 3.20), and "I can do all things through him who strengthens me" (Philippians 4.13).
Song. Moses couldn't help but sing. God had put a new song in his heart and his mouth. I love to think of that scene in heaven when we will sing "a new song before the throne!" (Revelation 14.3) But don't wait. God is your song now!
Salvation. Israel was in a mess. Between slavery and the sea, they needed God to save them. And he did! God looks upon us with compassion. Whether the mess is our own making or not, he saves us if we call upon him. Praise him for his abundant mercy!
Superhero. That's basically what Elohim - the word for God used here - means. God was 'larger than life.' As he had been for their fathers, so now was God for them. Remember, God is your superhero!
Soldier. The Lord is a man of war. He does not shrink back from the battle. Jesus went to the cross to utterly defeat Satan! He fights for us every day! Hallelujah!
Prayer: Oh Lord, you are my strength, my song, my salvation, my superhero and my soldier! I praise you, my God! Jesus has won the victory for me. I am today a winner, because of what Jesus has done and is doing for me now. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: 6 when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; 7 for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. 8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. 9 But those who seek to destroy my life shall go down into the depths of the earth; 10 they shall be given over to the power of the sword; they shall be a portion for jackals. 11 But the king shall rejoice in God; all who swear by him shall exult, for the mouths of liars will be stopped. (Psalms 63:6-11)
