Daily Reading: Ezekiel 47
This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, where it enters the Dead Sea. When it empties into the sea, the salty water there becomes fresh. (Ezekiel 47.8 NIV)
Devotional Thought: Ezekiel lived in tumultuous times. As the people of Judah were exiled from their homes, they must have thought that the Lord had abandoned them, that the glory of God was no longer available to them. Ezekiel’s vision was a message of hope. For, as we sing, “Where the Spirit of God is, there is peace.”
In the vision of chapter 47, Ezekiel sees a stream of water that flows out of the temple, continuing to grow in strength and volume. It is such healthy water that it causes trees to flourish, and salty water to become so fresh that living creatures can abound in it.
This stream represents the power and might of our Unstoppable God. In the words of the Sanctus Real song by that name:
“Unstoppable God/ Let Your glory go on and on/ Impossible things/ In Your name they shall be done.”
Ezekiel’s vision gives us just that image. From his place on high, God sends his glory as an unstoppable force that multiplies, cleanses, and gives life as it touches more and more ground.
Many of us feel that we are living in tumultuous times. We feel that our communities’ values have decayed and that people around us are selfish. God is sending us a message through Ezekiel’s vision—which wasn’t only for his time.
God’s grace and saving power are unstoppable. Even in our times of hardship, God is still on his throne and his mercy flows. Be encouraged. Allow his river of life to flow through your heart today—and feel the strength of his presence regardless of your circumstances.

Prayer: Thank you, God, that you are unstoppable. Thank you that you see us in our suffering, and you send your presence to restore our strength and our hope. Help us to trust that impossible things shall be done in your holy name. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 60.6-12
6 God has spoken in his holiness: “With exultation I will divide up Shechem and portion out the Vale of Succoth.
7 Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet; Judah is my scepter.
8 Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom I cast my shoe; over Philistia I shout in triumph. ”
9 Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?
10 Have you not rejected us, O God? You do not go forth, O God, with our armies.
11 Oh, grant us help against the foe, for vain is the salvation of man!
12 With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.
