Daily Reading: Hebrews 9
Scripture Focus: Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. (Hebrews 9.22)
Devotional Thought: When I was a young Christian, one of my favorite gospel songs was "What a Savior" by Ernie Hasse...
“Once I was straying in sin's dark valley. No hope within could I see. They searched through heaven and found a Savior, to save a poor lost soul like me.
He left the Father, with all his riches, with calmness sweet and serene, came down from heaven and gave his life blood, to make the vilest sinner clean.
Death's chilly waters I'll soon be crossing. His hands will lead me safe o'er. I'll join the chorus in that great city, and sing up there forever more.
Chorus: Oh what a Savior! Oh Hallelujah! His heart was broken on Calvary. His hands were nail scarred. His side was riven. He gave his life blood for you and me.”
With all our distractions, in all our prosperity, in our political correctness, and in our self-sufficiency, we tend to forget the blood of Jesus. Jesus shed his blood on the cross of Calvary that you and I might be forgiven of our sins. It was my sins that he carried to the cross. Oh hallelujah! What a Savior!
Prayer: Oh, Jesus! What a Savior you are! I love you for shedding your blood for the forgiveness of my sins. I gladly claim you as my Savior! Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 49.10-15
10 For he sees that even the wise die; the fool and the stupid alike must perish and leave their wealth to others.
11 Their graves are their homes forever, their dwelling places to all generations, though they called lands by their own names.
12 Man in his pomp will not remain; he is like the beasts that perish.
13 This is the path of those who have foolish confidence; yet after them people approve of their boasts. Selah
14 Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol; death shall be their shepherd, and the upright shall rule over them in the morning. Their form shall be consumed in Sheol, with no place to dwell.
15 But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah
