Daily Reading: Acts 3

Scripture Focus: And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong. (Acts 3.16)

Devotional Thought: I've had people tell me that they could never do this or quit that. But, I've seen those same people give up lifelong habits because they have done so in the power of Jesus' name. A friend of mine came to Jesus a few years ago. She was a heavy drinker. One day she told me, "I quit drinking." What? "Yes," she said. "It just didn't taste good anymore." She never thought she could quit. She's been sober a couple years now. Now, she's working on smoking, and I believe she will whip that by the powerful name of Jesus!

Peter and John came across a man who thought he would never walk again. He didn't have the strength. Medical treatments were not available. He was reduced to begging. But, when Peter and John came by, he was in for the surprise of his life: “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” He went walking and leaping into church!

Peter and John were quick to testify that they didn't do it. It was only by the name of Jesus that the man became strong enough to walk. And, it's only the name of Jesus that can make a person stand strong in their faith.

What are your weaknesses? What are your struggles? In the name of Jesus - by faith in his name - you can be strong enough to defeat every foe.

Prayer: Lord, I bring you my weaknesses, my struggles. Please make your power perfect in them. By faith in your name, I claim victory! Amen.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 66.1-7

1 Shout for joy to God, all the earth; 2 sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise! 3 Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you. 4 All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.” Selah

5 Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man. 6 He turned the sea into dry land; they passed through the river on foot. There did we rejoice in him, 7 who rules by his might forever, whose eyes keep watch on the nations— let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah
