Whose Facts?

Daily Reading: Jeremiah 11
Scripture Focus: But, O Lord of hosts, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind... to you have I committed my cause. (Jeremiah 11.20)
Devotional Thought: 2020 has been a tumultuous year to say the least. As the impeachment of the president was winding down, a virus was starting up. But then, in the aftermath of an unarmed black man dying while being forcibly restrained by a white police officer, things really got crazy.
The "twittersphere" and news outlets have been filled with "facts" from all perspectives. Fact-checkers have been busy passing judgment and awarding Pinocchios. But even the fact-checkers don't agree! Who can you believe? Whose "facts" will you accept as true?
Jeremiah saw great social upheaval with a myriad of competing "facts" in his day. Jeremiah knew the one place to turn where he would get things right:
· God judges righteously. He sees all the facts and is not confused by conflicting testimonies. He perfectly understands the law and is able to apply it fairly in all circumstances. He knows "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth."
· God tests the heart and the mind. Among the facts being leveled against people are charges of treasonous motives and hypocritical standards. God knows the heart and mind of everyone perfectly. He sees inside the soul of a man.
· I can commit my cause to God. 2020 is also an election year. We've heard it said, "Let's leave it up to the voters." The trouble with that is that the voters may not have all the facts! We can rest assured, that God does and that he has our best interests at heart for ... "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him would not perish but have everlasting life."
Whose facts will you believe?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I am so thankful that you are the same yesterday, today, and forever. You do not change like shifting sand. I have committed my cause to you, O Lord! Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 107.4-9
4 Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in;
5 hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them.
6 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
7 He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in.
8 Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!
9 For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
