Daily Reading: Revelation 21

Scripture Focus: Those who conquer will inherit these things, and I will be their God and they will be my children. (Revelation 21.7, NRSV)

Devotional Thought: I've had people purchase tickets for me to pick up at the box office. The tickets were paid for and marked "will call." All I had to do was "call" - stop and get them. I like that!

In Revelation 21, heaven is described as our inheritance. It has been paid for. It is ours. We need only to call, conquering by the blood of Jesus.

What will we inherit when we conquer? Heaven will be a holy place, a healing place, a beautiful place. There will be no more tears there, no more sorrow there, no more sickness there. In heaven we will never die, we will never be lonely, and we will never walk in darkness. In heaven we will drink from the River of Life, eat from the Tree of Life, read from the Book of Life, and wear the Crown of Life. We will sing. We will worship. We will rejoice.

Those who conquer will inherit all these things. Wonderful! But wait! There is something more... God will be their God, and they will be God's children. I know how I love and care for my children and grandchildren. “Things” account for very little of the blessings of heaven. God himself is the true blessing. His love is the greatest of the gifts! I'm so glad I'm a part of the family of God!

What a glorious inheritance is ours in Jesus! The tickets are paid for by the blood of Jesus. Will you call?

Prayer: Lord, thank you for paying the price for me to inherit eternal life with you. I call upon your name right now to receive the gift and the assurance of eternal life. Amen.

Psalm of the Day: 10 You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills; 11 they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. 12 Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell; they sing among the branches. 13 From your lofty abode you water the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work. 14 You cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth 15 and wine to gladden the heart of man, oil to make his face shine and bread to strengthen man's heart. (Psalms 104:10-15)
