Daily Reading: Revelation 21
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21.3-4)
Devotional Thought: What is heaven like? The answer is found in part in verses 3-4 of Revelation 21.
God will live with people. While we have God’s presence in this life, there is a fullness and an unveiling that is yet to come. Now we see through a glass darkly, then we shall see face to face! Having been washed and sanctified, we will dwell in God’s holy house forever.
We will be God’s people and he will be our God. Think of it as moving from a time of engagement to a time of marriage. When we are engaged, we are promised to another. We are his/hers in that sense, but the full union awaits the wedding. That is what heaven is like. That is why our entrances there - and even our eternal lives there - are called the wedding supper of the Lamb. We will live in perfect union with God.
There will be no more tears and crying.
There will be no more death.
There will be no more mourning.
There will be no more pain.
The old order of things – living in a world that’s dying – will pass away. What a wonderful thought - death itself will die! Today, are you missing the presence of one who has gone on to be with the Lord? Remember, this separation is only a temporary condition, for Jesus has defeated death! In that land of resurrection, death cannot touch us. It’s a whole new way of living!
Live today as though your next step will be into that wonderful and holy place!
Prayer: Lord, I think of the words of that old song: "Jesus will be what makes it heaven for me." Thank you that you have made heaven for me, but thank you most of all that you will be in heaven with me. Amen.
Psalm of the Day: Psalm 106:13-18
13 But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his plan to unfold.
14 In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wilderness they put God to the test.
15 So he gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease among them.
16 In the camp they grew envious of Moses and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the LORD.
17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it buried the company of Abiram.
18 Fire blazed among their followers; a flame consumed the wicked.
