The Child Was Beautiful

Daily Reading: Exodus 1-2
Scripture Focus: Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him. (Exodus 2:9 NIV)
Devotional Thought: Talk about Divine Providence! Fearing for her son's life, "when she could hide him no longer," Jochebed placed her sweet wiggly baby in a basket and walked away. We read in Hebrews, “By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king's edict” (Hebrews 11:23). Three months?! Moses' mother nursed, nurtured, and loved this baby for 3 months and then had to trust in God to deliver him - as He would later deliver the Israelites through Moses. To make it even more of a God-orchestrated-provision, Pharaoh's daughter chose Moses' own mother to be the one to nurse him and raise him as a child.
As a new mother myself, this passage causes so many new feelings for me! I simply can't imagine leaving my 3 month old. The faith that Moses' parents displayed is admirable and unbelievable. They saw that this child was something special and they chose to obey and trust in the Lord. The challenges of nursing and raising a child are great. The demands of parenting are intense. And the reward of seeing your child following the Lord must be incomparable. It has been my personal prayer, since the day I learned I was expecting, that my child would develop a heart for the Lord! May she choose to follow Jesus and have a longing for Him from a young age!
It took the faith of two parents to allow the Divine Providence of our Savior to work! May we have that faith and obey - even in the bleakest of days!

Prayer: God, instill in us an unwavering faith in you! May we press on, with our eyes on the cross, as we desire to live for you! Thank you for the promise of an eternal reward with you! Amen!
Psalm of the Day: 1 O God, save me by your name, and vindicate me by your might. 2 O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth. 3 For strangers have risen against me; ruthless men seek my life; they do not set God before themselves. Selah 4 Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life. 5 He will return the evil to my enemies; in your faithfulness put an end to them. 6 With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O LORD, for it is good. 7 For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies. (Psalms 54:1-7)
